Dirt Bikes
Dirt bikes are not just for adults anymore. Growing populations of very young people are taking up the sport of dirt biking and tearing up the trails. Children as young as three and four are becoming die-hard dirt bike enthusiasts and their parents are feeding their desire to go fast and get dirty. Sporting goods companies across the globe are picking up on this growing sector of the sports world, producing dirt bikes and gear to fit this pint-sized population. Gone are the days of simple play dates in the neighborhood with tea parties and hide and seek. Children in today’s fast-paced world are picking up their dirt bikes and laying down rubber.
Miniature-sized dirt bikes are one of the fastest growing segments of the sport. Companies are manufacturing dirt bikes as small as 50cc’s to accommodate even the smallest riders. Dirt bikes for children typically range in size from the smallest 50cc bikes to 125cc and 150cc dirt bikes for the older children. Mini bikes come in all variety of colors and paint finishes, so even the most girly dirt bike enthusiast can find a hot pink bike to match her personality. Mini dirt bikes are normally made of lightweight parts including plastic and fiberglass to assure that small riders can easily maneuver them, making small dirt bikes ideal for the even the most adventurous child.
Clothing companies are also picking up on the trend of young bikers. More and more stores are manufacturing clothing that caters to the likes and safety needs of young dirt bike riders. Helmets, eyewear, and gloves are being produced in smaller and smaller sizes, as are protective plates and boots. Ten years ago it would have been difficult, if not nearly impossible, to find properly sized dirt bike gear for little enthusiasts. Today the choices are as varied as the personalities of the riders themselves. Patterns from pink flowers to black skulls can be found on gear for those as young as three or four years of age. The unique ability to express themselves through protective gear and clothing adds yet another layer of fun and enjoyment to the thrill for young dirt bike riders everywhere.
Dirt bike clubs are being formed in all corners of the world to cater to and host events for even the youngest dirt bike participants. Organizations like Dirt Bike Kids keep record of all things dirt bike. They host events, provide safety training and offer parental information and support groups for family members to come together and enjoy their love of the sport. Most dirt bike clubs across the country also offer classes and safety training for new people to the sport, ensuring that even the youngest competitors are well protected from injury before being turned loose to tackle the dusty trails.
Children everywhere are making the move away from plain, mundane activities and into the world of speed, with dirt bikes becoming a popular choice for youngsters. Dirt bike races and trials are gaining popularity, as are simple family outings to everyone’s favorite trail system. The youngsters of the dirt bike world are climbing the ladders and joining the ranks of the older, more experienced riders and will soon be leaving their aged counterparts in the dust on the dirt bike trails.
