Treadmill Reviews

If you’re in the market for a home treadmill, the choices may be overwhelming. With machines ranging anywhere from $500 to over $4000, it’s hard to know what’s best for you.

When it comes to choosing a treadmill however, experts agree that mid-range machines (those prices between $1500 and $3000) are best for the average home exerciser. They are sturdy enough to withstand repetitive use and include all basic mechanical and electronic features to help guide you through a workout, no matter your level and goals. Based on that criterion, the following are the top 10 picks for home treadmills:

Sole F63. Considered one of the best machines for home use (both at this price and above), the F63 features a 2.5 Continuous Duty HP Motor with a lifetime warranty, a 20"x55" running surface (larger than the minimum required for comfortable running), an LCD display with 6 different programs, and a variety of “comfort” features, such as speakers, fans and MP3 docks. MSRP: $1899

Sole F80. One of the best folding treadmills in the market. With an even more powerful motor than its predecessor (the F63), the Sole F80 has 3.0 HP motor, a Cushion Flex running surface (which provides some amazing shock absorption) and eight different programs, as well as two pre-set heart rate control plans. Very stable despite that it’s a foldable model. MSRP: $1500

NordicTrack C2155. A cheap treadmill featuring 15 built-in programs, numerous iFit card workouts (which include audio of a trainer speaking to you while you’re using the machine), and lots of little extras, such as an iPod port. The NordicTrack C2155 is meant for walking, not running, and its 2.0 HP motor is not strong enough for intense workouts. MSRP: $1100

Bodyguard T240. More expensive than other models, the T240 is well-worth the extra money. The extra long belt (57” as opposed to the standard 17-20”), the included heart rate monitor and the customizable settings in three languages make this one of the top contenders in its price range. The LCD screen also displays graphic profiles to make goals and workouts clearer, and it integrates a cooling fan and four data windows. MSRP: $2000

NordicTrack S3000. If you’re a runner, this is the treadmill for you. Sturdy and strong, with a 5.0 HP motor and a 60” long belt, the S3000 is definitively heavy duty. It also includes a top-of-the-line absorption shock system and a maximum speed of 12-mph. The machine also features 39 workouts (some pre-set, some customizable) and a heart rate monitor.  MSRP: $3000

When it comes to choosing the right treadmill, focus more on your own personal needs than on the general reviews of the machine. While a good-quality treadmill can be used by everybody, there’s no need to overpay for a top-of-the-line, running model if you only need something to walk on a few times a week.
